FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONs
Questions? We’re Here to Help.
We know financial advice can come with plenty of questions. Here are some of the things we’re most commonly asked about retirement planning, superannuation, pensions and working with Financial Edge Group.
Getting Started
-
If you're aged 50 or over, it's a great time to start planning for your financial future.
Whether you're approaching retirement, transitioning into retirement or already retired, a financial planner can help you make the most of your superannuation, investments and savings.
The earlier you plan, the more opportunities you may have to achieve your retirement goals and enjoy the lifestyle you want.
-
At your first meeting, we’ll take the time to get to know you, understand what’s important to you and talk through your current financial position. We’ll discuss your short- and long-term goals, any concerns you may have, and the questions you’d like answered. This helps us understand where you are now, where you’d like to be, and whether we may be able to help you with the next steps.
-
Our initial phone consultation with an adviser is complimentary. If you choose to proceed to an initial meeting, either face-to-face or via Zoom, the cost is $660.
-
It’s helpful to bring along any relevant financial information, such as recent statements for your superannuation funds, investments and insurance policies, as well as details of your income, expenses, debts and any other assets you hold. If you have specific financial goals or questions you’d like to discuss, it can also be useful to bring a list of these to the meeting.
-
At Financial Edge Group, we believe the greatest value of financial advice comes from an ongoing relationship, not just a one-off plan.
Your financial circumstances, retirement goals, legislation and investment markets will change over time. Ongoing advice allows us to proactively review your strategy, make adjustments and help keep your retirement on track.
For this reason, we generally work with clients who are seeking an ongoing advice relationship, rather than one-off advice.
Super & Retirement
-
When you can access your super depends on your age and circumstances. In most cases, you’ll need to reach your preservation age and meet a condition of release, such as retiring. There are also some limited circumstances where super may be accessed earlier.
-
There isn’t one amount that suits everyone. How much you may need depends on the lifestyle you want in retirement, your expected expenses, other assets and income, and how long your savings may need to last. We can help you work through these factors and understand what may be appropriate for your situation.
-
Since 2013, commissions on new superannuation and investment products have been banned in Australia.
While commissions can still be paid on certain insurance policies, Financial Edge Group does not provide insurance advice or receive insurance commissions.
We are paid directly by our you, and all advice fees are clearly explained upfront, so you know exactly what you're paying for.
-
Yes. We can help you understand how your income, assets and superannuation may affect your Age Pension entitlements and discuss strategies that may be relevant to your broader retirement plan. We can also help you understand what information Centrelink may require.
-
When you pass away, your superannuation is generally paid to your nominated beneficiaries or your estate.
Who receives your super depends on your fund's rules, whether you have a valid beneficiary nomination in place and your personal circumstances.
Having the right arrangements in place can help ensure your superannuation is passed on according to your wishes and may reduce unnecessary tax for your loved ones.
